Lew Willie & the Snapdragons formed in New York City and performed at such venues as the Ritz, the Lonestar Cafe, and Tramps. When bandleader Luke Williams moved to south Florida, he reassembled the band here where it has become a favorite at the annual Art Deco festival on South Beach, the Van Dyk Cafe on Lincoln Road, and Erny's in Delray. Other notable gigs include the August, 1998 Miami International Airport birthday celebration on Concourse A, the closing ceremony for the Brickell bridge in downtown Miami, and the tribute to Mitchell Wolfson at the Museum of Science.
With a diverse repertoire of current top-forty, classic hits, originals, and off-the wall comedy tunes; lead vocalist and virtuoso guitarist Luke Williams harmonizes with choreographed background singers and a tight horn section. Together, they perform the hot songs of today and span the decades with favorites from the 1980's and 1970's, through the '60's R&B of Wilson Pickett, the '50's rock'n roll of Little Richard, the '40's shuffle jive of Louis Jordan, to the '30's jitterbug of Cab Calloway.
The band offers the elegant society dance music of George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Glenn Miller - as well as Latin and Caribbean sounds such as salsa, merengue, reggae, and calypso.
Entertaining for listeners and dancers alike, Lew Willie & the Snapdragons bring energy and class to private parties, nightclubs, or concert engagements.
