Juno award Winner and jazz icon Hugh Fraser has stated “Don’s Talent as a great saxophonist is supported by his compositional and band leading talent”. In addition to appearing along side such notable jazz luminaries as P.J. Perry, Bobby Shew, Hugh Fraser, Pat LeBarbera, Slide Hampton, Chu Cho Valdez, and Tommy Banks, he has performed at dozens of festivals and numerous jazz club throughout Canada and the U.S. He can be seen and heard on a number of TV and radio specials and multiple CD’s including a couple critically acclaimed self led discs. He has performed internationally in the U.S., Hong Kong, and Mexico and maintains a busy performing, teaching, and lecturing schedule. He was previously the announcer and producer on CKUA’s “A Time for Jazz” and currently pens the column “Jazz Standards” for Edmonton’s SEE magazine. His ensemble “The Don Berner Big Band” is made up of some of Edmonton’s finest professional musicians, all of whom have solo careers that encompass regular recording, performance, lecturing, and touring and Berner is extremely pleased and honored to share stages regularly with all of the fine gentleman and ladies involved in this and a wide variety of ensembles.
